Day 1 done

We left at 7AM to go to get the port put into my left arm, inside above the elbow. Getting the lidocaine was the worst part. Stings going in. At one point, I told them I wanted a detachable arm just like those plastic dolls. I could leave the arm and come back when it was done. But then I said our heads would turn all the way around. The doc said, Ya, and we've all seen that movie.

The meds today--I got two for nausea and two to kill the cancer. No reactions to anything but the saline the nurse used to flush the port after we were done. So drugs that I can't feel are killing the cancer that I couldn't feel. She said I might have one of two tastes to that saline: a mouthful of quarters or a skunk-taste. I got the skunk, gone in two breaths. It took about four hours. I had a private room. It wasn't assigned, I just got it. It had a TV. There are other areas with recliners and TVs, too. I also took a movie: The Ballad of Rickie Bobby-Talladega Nights. It did the job of distracting me, but what a bad movie! So I'm taking suggestions for next time on May 17. You can suggest anything but Terms of Endearment!

They tell me if I take the meds when I'm supposed to, I shouldn't be bothered by nausea. I came home and ate dinner. I feel tired from the long day.

That's that. Thanks for the well wishes and prayers. They're keeping us going. Love, nancy

I meant one down, three to go - my typing never was any good...

Yeah! One down. One of my favorite movies in The 40 Year Old Virgin, if you like crude Steve Carrell humor. Little Miss Sunshine was another great one. Man of the Year with Robin Williams was decent. Elf, though, hands down, would be what I'd watch to distract myself.

:)

BTW, babbleramamel is Melanie in Amherst. I changed my Blogger handle. Erik gave me that nickname. I wonder why :P

I'm happy to hear things went ok for you. As for movies - 40 Year Old Virgin or The Full Monty (one of my all time favorites).

Big hugs to you!!!

Love ya,
Meredith

Hey Nancy,

I love you, I am praying for you. Was the chair a silly sinking chair? God provided a private room for you his precious daughter. I give Him praise. May you feel yourself wrapped in His arms - and I will pray for many more "God sightings" for strength.

Hugs and Kisses,
Lori

I can't tell you how much you have been on my mind in the last 24 hours and that is really a God-thing, because I have been really busy. He is faithful and He will not forget you. Neither will I!!

Love ya,
Kathy

Just wondering how you're feeling today, Saturday...? Checking in and so good to keep up with you this way. You need a picture up here! And, I didn't know you were in education ... do tell! Prayers are uplifted for you.
Hugs - Tina
PS. Did Laurie get with you about clipping on Friday?

I am glad that you decided to do this blog. Great way for we who care about you to know what's happening without you having to repeat yourself.

I like the movies others mentioned, but recently saw Stranger Than Fiction. Not a comedy, but comedic moments; shows that Will Farrell can actually act.

Love you & praying for you!

This is a PERFECT way to stay in touch with all of us...and there are TON of us, aren't there?? I sent Joe Serra your blog link too, so he may be checking in. He's fostering a 21-month old Sudanese boy, so he's finding out that he's REALLY busy these days :)

I'm very glad to see that Day 1 was relatively uneventful. Those are the kind of days you want! As far as movies, how about the 2001 version of BubbleBoy? It's irreverent on every possible level! Some very big stars for such a low-budget flick. It was released about a week before 9/11 and was immediately pulled out of the theaters because we weren't supposed to want comedy in those days after 9/11. VERY disrespectful. VERY funny :) Take care!

Nance,

I thought about you all day on Friday. This weekend was filled with yard work, so I didn't have the chance to call you and check in. Glad to hear the first day went well, or as well as can be expected, I guess. Now that one is out of the way, and only three (my math is correct instead of Jay's??!!)left, you're on a roll!!

As for movies, I thought Wedding Crashers was hilarious. VERY irreverant and somewhat crude, but made me laugh out loud. I'd also consider Caddyshack and Stripes, but maybe that's just me. I thought the Italian Job was good, but it's not a comedy. I also thought Elf was funny, like Melanie mentioned.

Thinking about you...
Love,
Jodi

What a great idea to have a blog. I just recently learned what a blog is. Now I get to use one. Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks!! Can't wait to tell my adult computer savvy sons that I am now a blogger.

So glad that your first treatment went well. God is certainly revealing Himself and His faithfulness to you. I am sure He will use this difficult time and cancer experience to not only draw you closer to Him but will use it to show each of us who love and care about you His amazing power and love. Continue to pray for you.

Thanks again for introducing me to the blogging world.
